Summary
I WOULD like to enquire who carries out the construction work for all the new work Torbay Council gives planning permission for. Where are the contractors that built the new Paignton Library, Travelodge and other various sites based? The reason I ask is I understand a fair few are based in the north of England and so, when planning permission is given, the words which often come to print in reports is 'jobs will be created'. There seem to be no construction jobs available when these buildings are worked on because they are all brought down from the north.
If this is true, how about only passing planning permission if, say, 25 per cent of the construction workers are employed locally for the duration of the build. If Oldway Mansion is given planning permission this would be a good place to start so self-employed construction workers have some work for the future.See the full content of this document
