The 2008/2009 Plumb Centre South West Winter Open Foursomes Championship got under way with only four matches at Yelverton on Sunday, the rest of the field having received first round byes.

The standard of golf was high nonetheless, with past finalists Neil Holman (teaching professional at Torbay Driving Range) and Richard Francis (Churston) pushed all the way by the host club's Dave Garry and Dave Purnell before going through 1-up.

Holman and Francis started well enough with a birdie, but were kept waiting before edging it with another birdie on the 18th.
