WITH ALL DUE respect to the good folk of Grays, a cold, wet Tuesday night at the Recreation Ground, with 500-odd fans showing devotion beyond the call of duty, is the sort of sporting experience most of us can do without on a regular basis.

Throw in Lewes, Northwich, Eastbourne, Farsley, Histon bless 'em and one or two more remote outposts, and you may be able to understand the attraction of Rochdale, Bury, Darlington, Macclesfield and even Accrington to your serious Torquay United fan.
