Ask Teignmothians who owns the Den and the answer is invariably that Lord Courtenay, as Lord of the Manor gave it to the townspeople in 1869.
Two references have recently come to light to suggest otherwise. Cyril Channon's researchers provided an historical reference in a copy of Teignmouth Post published in 1968 regarding the purchase of the Den by the council in 1869.See the full content of this document
