Surgeon Joins Call for Kelly Inquest ; 'Highly Likely That Dr Kelly Was Assassinated' [Edition 2]

RETIRED South Devon surgeon David Halpin (pictured above) is among a team of 13 doctors set to mount a legal challenge to demand an inquest into the death of government scientist David Kelly.

Dr Halpin, 69, a former orthopaedic and trauma consultant at Torbay Hospital, has put his name to a report that r e j e c t s L o r d H u t t o n ' s conclusion that Kelly, 59, died from blood loss after cutting his wrist s a pruning knife. He said a cut to the ulnar artery was 'highly unlikely' to have caused enough bleeding to kill Dr Kelly. The doctors have hired a solicitor Frances Swaine of Leigh Day and Co and have taken advice from barrister Richard Hermer QC. Speaking from his home at Haytor yesterdayDr Halpin said: "It is not right that the death of someone who jumps from a car park in Torquay has a full inquest but Dr Kelly does not." The doctors intend to use the Coroners Act to challenge the decision by the then Lord Chancellor, Lord Falconer, to suspend the inquest .
