TOTNES MP Anthony Steen (pictured) today insisted he himself chose to stand down at the next election rather than being told to go after his claims hit national headlines in the expenses scandal.

The veteran MP said he felt he had been 'vilified' and 'picked on' though he felt he had done no more wrong than other West Country MPs who had claimed similar amounts to his Pounds 87,000 over four years for their second homes.
