THE Pounds 50,000 scheme to turn Totnes Civic Hall into a solar energy powerhouse is being unveiled with a fanfare today -- even though there will be nothing to turn on because British Gas cannot change the electricity meter.

The 70 photovoltaic cells which have been installed on the hall's south facing roof cannot start producing electricity until the meter is switched over and British Gas cannot get to the hall for another nine days.
