DEVON'S place at the top table of the men's and women's game in England was already assured before the first day's play of the 2009 Men's Championships Finals at Worthing, but Shaldon's hopes of adding the National Top Club title to the one won in the Two-Fours event last year was to end in defeat.

After beating Essex County 3-2 in the morning's semi-finals, this close-knit squad of players were beaten by Rugby (Warks) 3-2 in the afternoon.
