JUST as this year, after the snows of the first two months, we suffered a fairly wet spring back in 1963, by which time our thoughts had turned to holidays -- the first of which was to be a 'package holiday' to Spain. Not your everyday 'package holiday', but a railway one, organised by the Rail Correspondence & Travel Society, on whose behalf we had pioneered a trip to Northern Spain three years earlier.
For Spain the 1960s was a decade of enormous change, not least on the railways. Until then the Spanish Railways, along with much of the rest of the country, had been marooned in the 1930s.See the full content of this document
