THE Paignton Town Community Partnership's meeting on Wednesday, October 7 highlighted the proposal to site a large children's play park on Paignton Green right outside the Flagship pub and Apollo complex hard up against the pub, where patrons often gather and spill naturally on to the green in good weather to enjoy the freedom afforded by the open space.
The main pedestrian flow from the town, down Torbay Road, across the pedestrian crossing, is the most popular access leading to the Esplanade and fully requires the present wide paving space to accommodate all the foot traffic and paraphernalia associated with going to the beach. Importantly, no thought has been given to a most serious aspect - - child protection. To site a play park full of young boys and girls having fun in full view of many happy drinkers is surely never going to be acceptable today.
