Summary
MY HUSBAND and I would like to add to the history of Brixham Breakwater hard. As the Americans moved onto the invasion of France, the Royal Navy HMS Vernon moved in and used all the facilities used by the Americans. They were the underwater mine and bomb disposal sailors (frogmen). They cleared the waters and harbours of mines and bombs, and made it safe for the troops and supplies.
My husband was in P1 party stationed in Brixham. They were one month on the continent and were working with the American Ceebees, then back to Brixham for another month for more training under the seas of Torbay. They used two Brixham Trawlers named Breadwinner and Providence. They were held between four stantions inside the Breakwater. On board they had all the diving equipment which P parties used to keep them at such a high standard in their dangerous job.See the full content of this document
