OLYMPIC rowing hopeful Bill Lucas joined forces with Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes to officially start the 1,000-day countdown to the London 2012 Games.

Kingswear's British star Lucas was among a number of the country's most promising athletes to be invited up to the two-day event in Manchester as part of the BT Backing Talent initiative.
