FURTHER to the interesting letter from Laird Garrard and his reference to the subject of providing underground car parking, an example of which he espied in Spain (Your Views, February 22), in the 1960s Mr P D Cavanna (affectionately known as 'Pop Cavanna' to his collages in the Torquay Chamber of Trade) proposed boring into the base of Rock Walk to create a car park.

I heard him say this in committee and recognised his enthusiasm for the idea.
