Summary
TONY BLAIR's 1996 war cry was 'education, education, education'. This, he said, was the answer to a most critical question -- what should be the priorities of a future Labour gover nment? Tony was right and in office he was to bring forward the academies programme to improve educational standards, creating schools which were outside local authority control and able to take greater charge of their offering and ethos.
