A FALSE alarm at sea probably saved the life of a man caught up in a real 999 drowning drama late at night off Shaldon.

Tim Black, 48, was moments away from being swept out to sea when he was plucked to safety by Teignmouth coastguards who were luckily on the scene after dealing with a nearby jet ski 'accident' which wasn't.
