NEWCASTLE UNITED owner Mike Ashley may leave the directors' box behind at St. James' Park from time to time, but Torquay United are about to boast the only chairman in the Football League to cheer his team on from the terraces.

Simon Baker is poised to become the Gulls' new chairman, and he says: "I've always watched from the Pop Side and I will continue to do that -- as long as I don't get too much grief!" South Devon businessman Baker, 56, currently vice-chairman, will officially take over from Alex Rowe next week -- today's home game against South Coast rivals AFC Bournemouth will be Rowe's last match 'in charge'.
