ASHBURTON residents are celebrating after controversial plans for a supermarket were withdrawn at the eleventh hour.

A proposal for a new Co-operative food store at Linhay was dropped hours before it was due to go to Dartmoor National Park Authority planners. The plan, submitted by the Hazelmoor Partnership, sparked a public outcry with traders, concerned about the threat to the individuality of the town, leading a campaign against it.
