DURING the course of my studies I came across interesting literature at Hertfordshire University taken from the 1930s to demonstrate how one could find scientific correlations between sunspots to levels of church attendance, the sales of new cars, and, last but never ever least, Your Views' hoary old chestnut, climatic change.

It was indeed a scientific piece of satire with serious implications in that one could manipulate statistics without too much jiggery-pokerto prove anything that would appeal to one's natural in-built prejudice and thus divert blame.
