Recycling Revolution Right -- Tor2 Director

THE director of the firm behind Torbay's controversial new bin delivery system has backed his company's recycling revolution saying he is 'convinced' the scheme is the right one for the Bay. Alastair Campbell, director of Tor2, says calls to the under- siege company call centre housed at Torbay Council have fallen away to 1,099 calls on Monday.

Flat Boarded Up After Court Order Over Nuisance Owner

RESIDENTS living in a block of Newton Abbot town centre flats are today breathing a sigh of relief after a troubled flat-owner was turfed out for a 'catalogue' of antisocial behaviour. Police closed down a flat belonging to mother of one Dawn Lewis, 45, after successfully seeking a closure order to stop repeated reports of loud music, threats to neighbours and drunken behaviour.

Sharks Sink Teeth Into North Petherton

TORBAY Sharks got their season off to a fine start, running out 54-29 winners against a North Petherton Club XV. Tries for the veterans went to James Wolfe (2), Matt Bettesworth (2), Richard Poustie, Adam Morris, Paul Bettesworth and a penalty try. Ben Passenger and Rich Poustie chipped over seven conversions between them. The Sharks will play New Cross at Paignton under lights on October 13.

Tolchard and Down Retain Mixed Pairs Title

KINGS stars Sophie Tolchard and Craig Down retained their Bowls Devon mixed pairs title after beating Combe Martin's Sylvia and David Mason 22-20 in the final at Feniton. A six put them in control to lead 13-4 after seven ends but their rivals from North Devon hit back to shoot a treble and lead 15-14 after 13 ends.

Honours for Coral and Bob

TWO Newton Abbot Swimming Club stalwarts have been honoured by the ASA South West Region for their dedication and work within the sport. At the South West Regional Aquaforce Volunteer Awards in Taunton, Coral Waldock received the Long Service award and Bob Jarman won the Outstanding Contribution at County/Regional Level prize.

Bateman and Lucas Both Off to New Zealand

BOTH of South Devon's GB Rowing squad members have been selected for the World Rowing Championships to be held on Lake Karapiro in New Zealand from October 31 -November 7. Torquay based Marcus Bateman (28) of Leander, along with Matt Wells, also of Leander, will contend the men's double sculls having already taken world cup medals as a new crew this season. The season has been a learning curve for Bateman.
