Inheritance Tax Interest Rise

HM Revenue & Customs has announced it will increase the interest charged for failing to pay an inheritance tax (IHT) bill within the six month deadline from 0 per cent to three per cent in September. IHT is charged at 40 per cent on the value of any estate above the nil-rate band, which is currently Pounds 325,000. The tax is not payable when assets pass between a husband and wife, or from one civil partner to another on death. In addition, the survivor can use any unused part of their spouse...

Business Lending Falls by Record Pounds 8.4bn

BUSINESS lending fell by a record Pounds 8.4billion in July as the credit squeeze tightened its grip on firms, official figures showed today. The 1.7 per cent fall in lending to 'private non-financial corporations' is far worse than June's 0.2 per cent decline and the biggest since the Bank of England's records began in 1997. Lending is down 2.9 per cent year on year.

900 Flock to Society's Summer Show
