TWO HUNDRED and fifty years after it last took place, the Manor of Woodhuish has held a Court Leet. The traditional ceremony was held at Churston Court, followed by a charity medieval banquet.

POLICE are hunting a knife-wielding attacker who left his victim with cuts after he grappled to fight him off. Officers and dog-handlers were called to Upper Morin Road in Paignton after reports of a mugger demanding money and a mobile phone from a Paignton man at 11.30pm on Friday.

POLICE closed off a Torquay road yesterday morning after winds brought down two trees and a wall. The elm and ash trees were toppled by gusts in the early hours, preventing traffic from using Penny's Hill.

Health Chiefs' Pledge On Port Care Home

HEALTH bosses say services to the elderly in the Bay will be expanded even though Torbay Care Trust is struggling to meet a shortfall of Pounds 900,000. Torbay Council has set a budget of Pounds 41million for adult social care services in the borough but the trust is facing a possible overspend of Pounds 900,000, which it is tackling.

Pounds 1 Bus Travel Initiative for Teenagers

CUT-PRICE travel will enable youngsters to journey around Torbay next month thanks to a new initiative. The council has linked up with Stagecoach to provide people aged 16 to 19 to buy a bus ticket for a flat rate of Pounds 1, entitling them to unlimited travel throughout Torbay from 6pm until 10.30pm daily.

ARSONISTS struck at a Kingskerswell house on Saturday evening. Two fire engines from Torquay attended the blaze, which occurred at a derelict property on Kingskerswell Road.

Race to Meet Bypass Deadline

THE economy of Torbay would be 'condemned' to years of stagnation if plans for the new South Devon Link Road fail to meet a Government deadline for funding, a county council boss has said. Devon County Council's chief executive Phil Norrey (pictured) made the comments just days after a public inquiry into the Pounds 120million road project closed.
