AN APPEAL has gone out for volunteers to help with Cockington's Apple Day. Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust needs to hand pick around four tonnes of apples from Churston Orchard which will then be washed and milled for pressings on Cockington's five-tonne Victorian press on the day.

TWO brothers who conned elderly house owners across South Devon through their driveway business have been ordered to pay their victims more than Pounds 7,000 compensation. Edward Fry, 28, and his brother James, 19, were sentenced at Exeter Crown Court yesterday after admitting 11 offences between them under the Fraud Act 2006 and the Trade Descriptions Act 1968.

Two Rescued After Kitchen Fire Drama

TWO people needed treatment for smoke inhalation after being rescued from a smokefilled house in Paignton. Both were taken to hospital following the kitchen fire at a property in Primley Park. The blaze caused extensive damage to the kitchen and smokelogged the rest of the house. Two fire crews were called out around 5.30pm on Thursday and found the fire had broken out in the ground floor kitchen.

Fire Control Room Praised for Keeping Mum Calm

A MUM and her baby boy were rescued by firefighters from their smokefilled house. The 19-year-old mum was kept calm and talking on the phone to a member of the fire service control staff while she and her eight- month-old son were trapped in a bedroom.

Meanwhile his girlfriend Rachel was forced to flee inland on the island to escape the huge waves which totally destroyed the surfing camp where they were staying.

Peach and Harford Rule Waves ; Sailing

MORGAN PEACH and Herbie Harford, sailing their Atlantic Spars sponsored RS Feva, ruled the waves at this year's RYA (Royal Yachting Association) South Zone Championships, held last weekend at the 2012 Olympic Venue in Weymouth. Twenty-five RS Feva Dinghies competed for the prestigious South Zone title with the results counting towards qualification for RYA zone training this winter.
